St. Francis Hospital Found Liable in Child Sex Abuse CaseOn July 8, 2011, a jury in Waterbury, Connecticut found St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center legally responsible for failing to properly supervise and oversee a medical research study being conducted by its employee, Dr. George Reardon. The jury also found that the defendant hospital did not fulfill its duty to protect children in its custody. As a result, the hospital has been ordered to pay the plaintiff $2,750,000.00 in compensatory damages. The plaintiff in the case was represented by Attorney Douglas Mahoney from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
This was the second case in the St. Francis Hospital Child Sex Abuse matter to proceed to trial. Kenny, O'Keefe & Usseglio, P.C., working with Attorney Susan Smith of Avon, Connecticut, represents more than sixty plaintiffs in this case.
"The defendant hospital has repeatedly refused to accept responsibility for its poor choices in failing to oversee medical research involving very young children in its facility. The jury recognized that and has held them responsible. We fully expect future juries to do the exact same thing." Timothy O'Keefe, Kenny, O'Keefe & Usseglio, P.C.
