Rights of Crime Victims in ConnecticutCrime victims in Connecticut have certain rights defined by state and federal law as well as certain rights guaranteed by the Connecticut Constitution. These include the right to be notified of criminal proceedings, attending and giving input to certain proceedings, seeking restitution, special family violence related rights and access to some confidential records. Crime victims may also have the right to file a lawsuit in certain situations to recover for their various harms and losses. These cases are often called Inadequate Security or Premises Security cases. These cases often involve violent crimes such as rape, sexual assualt and murder. They also involve cases of clergy abuse and school related bullying and assaults. These crimes will occur at various places of business including convenience stores, hotels and motels, apartments and condominiums, shopping centers and malls, banks, ATMs, parking garages, hospitals, bars, casinos, nursing homes, gas stations, office buildings and airports.
